HAM ITALIA and FNX Liquid Natural Gas will build and commission one of the largest BIO / LNG plants in Europe

HAM plans the largest European BIO LNG plant in Caviro, Italy

More than 9 million kilos of liquid Biomethane or BIO/LNG will be produced annually

HAM Italy is developing in Faenza, Italy, one of the largest 100% vehicular Biomethane plants in Europe, with an estimated annual capacity of 9 million kilos, equivalent to 140GWh / year.

The project starts from the biogas generated by 2 digesters owned by Caviro Spa, an Italian wine cooperative, where they recover by-products derived from the wine and agri-food chain, which is transformed into biogas. FNX Liquid Natural Gas, a subsidiary of the Ham Group, is in charge of designing and manufacturing the equipment necessary to purify the biogas, up to CO2 contents below 50 ppm, suitable for liquefying; as well as the liquefaction train that allows obtaining Bio LNG ready for transportation, bound for service stations. It should be noted that the entire installation works with electricity of renewable origin, not producing polluting emissions or greenhouse gases.

Biomethane or BIOGNL, also known as green gas, is characterized by its negative carbon footprint, making it a real and ecological alternative in the energy transition, allowing the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and helping to combat the climate change.

On the other hand, this project will contribute to the Circular Economy, favoring the local economy, generating employment, returning resources and nutrients to the soil, and as a sustainable alternative to incineration or landfills. It will also allow energy independence, as it does not have to depend on international markets or large corporations, having an important supply terminal in Italy.
In addition, the new 100% vehicular biomethane plant will allow a reduction of more than 600,000 km / year in road traffic of the LNG tanks with which the HAM Italy currently supplies northern Italy, from the port terminals, thus reducing road traffic in general and CO2 emissions.

HAM Italy, with the development of one of the largest European Bio LNG plants for vehicular use, offers a comprehensive solution to customers who have biogas, taking charge of designing, manufacturing and operating all the necessary equipment that allows optimizing the process: Upgrading, compression Bio CNG, Bio LNG liquefaction, transportation through virtual gas pipeline and sale of biomethane at service stations. HAM develops the first vehicular Biomethane project in Spain

HAM Group service stations will allow you to refuel BIO CNG

HAM service stations will offer vehicular biomethane

HAM Group has developed the first 100% vehicular Biomethane project in Spain, which will allow our customers to enjoy biofuel at our service stations.

The project starts from the biogas generated in an anaerobic codigestion plant of residues, coming from the agri-food industry and from a cattle farm, located in the Farm Mas Jonquer de Vilanant, Girona. The biogas plant is owned by Apergas, a company dedicated to the engineering, development and operation of biogas plants.
Our subsidiary FNX Liquid Natural Gas has installed a modular upgrading equipment, developed by our engineers and R&D department. This upgrading equipment allows to purify the biogas, which contains 50-60% methane, increasing its quality and obtaining a methane purity higher than 99%.

Once the biomethane, also known as green gas, is available, it goes through a compression equipment that allows its pressure to be increased to 250 bar, to be stored in tube trailers, which are used to transport the vehicular biomethane, through a virtual gas pipeline, destined for service stations, where 200 Nm3h of biogas will be managed, equivalent to 2000 Kg of Bio CNG per day.

HAM, taking advantage of the availability of compressed biomethane at source, will also install a dispenser in Vilanant, which will allow vehicles in the area to be refueled, reinforcing our network of service stations, made up of more than 80 points of compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas, which allow you to circulate on the main national and European routes, with a more ecological and economical fuel.

For Toni Murugó, Marketing Director of HAM Group, “Biomethane has great potential and will play an important role in the energy transition, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, which affect climate change, thanks to its negative carbon footprint. In addition, it is a renewable energy that contributes to the Circular Economy, favoring the local economy, generating employment in rural areas, returning resources and nutrients to the soil, and as a sustainable alternative to incineration or landfills”.

Natural gas is an energy of the present with a long journey and possibilities to further reduce the carbon footprint at a global level

HAM Group grants an interview to My City at full throttle to talk of the present and future of natural gas

Mi Ciudad a todo gas interview with the Marketing Director of HAM Group

Is sustainability for the HAM Group a strategic element for the management of the company?
HAM Group, consider sustainability as a strategic element for the management of the company. The strategic decisions of the company have always been made from a sustainable point of view. We are a company in constant change and evolution, always trying to have the best available technology that allows us to take another step towards zero emissions.

HAM Group HAM was a pioneer in its commitment to NGV service stations in Spain. What is the current situation of the deployment of the gas station network in Spain and at what rate do you think the current gas station infrastructure will grow in the coming years?
Currently HAM has more than 25 CNG supply points and 27 LNG supply point for heavy vehicles, all of them open to the public. In total there are about 100 CNG points and 66 LNG points in Spain.
In 2020, despite the difficulties, HAM has opened 7 new CNG points and another 6 LNG points, being the year with the most new openings. This is a general market trend, since 2020 is the year with the most openings of NGV stations and there are already several companies that have communicated their intention to expand the supply network.
For this 2021 in HAM we will exceed our own figures and we are convinced that by the middle of the year we will have more openings than in 2020.

Do you have vehicles powered by natural gas in your transportation fleet? What advantages would you highlight of vehicular natural gas compared to other technologies?
Our entire fleet of heavy vehicles is powered by natural gas. Light vehicles and cars are natural gas except one electric. Natural gas vehicles allow freedom of movement and flexibility that other technologies do not offer. The handling and feel are the same as conventional vehicles, but they reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful particles. It is a technology of the present with a long history and possibilities to further reduce the carbon footprint at a global level. All this at a price similar to that of a conventional vehicle and an operating cost that is reduced by about 50%.

Do you consider that biomethane will have a relevant weight in Spanish sustainable mobility in the coming years?
We believe that biomethane should be the center of new technology developments. With biomethane a circle is closed that allows not only not to increase greenhouse gases but also globally these would be reduced.
Biomethane production is carried out on farms, landfills, food companies ... Many of these productions are owned by small companies, some in the primary sector. With the use of biomethane we are boosting the local economy, nearby companies and whose benefit remains in our country and to a large extent in our towns.
We believe that sustainability is not just an ecological issue. That our country begins to be energy self-sufficient and that energy production is concentrated in thousands of small producers, we believe is the most sustainable energy management model.

New HAM GNC-GNL Gas Station for Beroil in Rubena, Burgos

HAM Group opens a new CNG-LNG service station in Rubena, Burgos

The Gas Station is part of the Yellow Project of HAM Group

HAM Group launched an LNG mobile station in Rubena, Burgos in 2016, property of Beroil, which, thanks to the development of our Yellow Project, has become a new fixed station, where customers can refuel liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas.

HAM Criogénica has been in charge, together with our R&D department, of the design, construction and commissioning of an ultra-compact facility, which has an underground tank, as in Irún, Gipuzkoa, where we were pioneers when building the first LNG-CNG station in Europe with the tank underground. This has allowed the installation of the equipment in a location of only 300m² in size, making 95% of the gas station surface passable, while eliminating any impact on vehicle traffic flows and reducing the aesthetic impact.

The new service station, property of Beroil, is located on the Madrid-Irún N-1 Highway, kilometer 247 (How to get there), next to the A1, also known as the Autovía del Norte, which connects Madrid with France, which makes it one of the main communication axes with the north of the country, as well as with the rest of Europe. It is also close to the AP-1 or North Highway, which connects Vitoria-Gasteiz with Irún.

The gas station has a buried tank with a capacity of 80.000 liters of LNG, which works at low pressures (2-3bar), with the capacity to supply up to 12.000Kg/h of LNG and 10.000 kilos of CNG per day. The service station has a buried coldbox, an “on the fly” conditioning system and 2 double dispensers (4 nozzles) of Liquefied Natural Gas for trucks and heavy vehicles, and 1 double dispenser (2 nozzle) of Compressed Natural Gas for cars, light vehicles and trucks.

The opening hours are 24 hours, throughout the year, being able to freely access and make payments with any credit or debit card. Companies and freelancers can enjoy our HAM card for professionals.

Currently HAM has an extensive network made up of 74 service stations, between fixed and mobile, in Spain and the main European routes. We continue to bet on CNG and LNG, as an alternative fuel, with the aim of minimizing environmental impact. Compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas are clean and sustainable fuels, which reduce emissions of CO2, nitrous oxides and fine particles, also allowing significant savings of 30-50% for customers, compared to the price of other fuels.
