HAM boosts BioLNG production with its first liquefaction plant in South America in partnership with Lipigas
The facility will be located in the Ñuble region, Chile
HAM Group and HAM Chile, in partnership with Empresas Lipigas, they have inaugurated in the Ñuble region their first Bio-LNG (renewable liquefied natural gas) upgrading and production plant in South America. This milestone will enable the production of liquid biomethane from biogas, which will be commercialized by Lipigas to supply Chilean transport companies and industries, contributing to the country’s energy transition.
The new plant stands out for its modular, containerized “plug & play” design, made up of six independent, easily interconnected modules: three dedicated to biogas treatment (cleaning and liquefaction) and three providing auxiliary services such as water and dry air supply. Thanks to this configuration, the facility was installed and commissioned in reduced timeframes.
Bio-LNG is obtained from biogas generated in an anaerobic co-digestion plant that processes organic waste from the pork industry. The fully automated and remotely managed system will nave, in its first phase, a processing capacity of 7,500 m³/day of biogas, with the goal of reaching 16,500 m³/day at full operation. The biomethane produced will serve as a raw material for Lipigas service stations, supplying the truck fleets that travel across Chile with the aim of decarbonizing the road transport sector.
This project reinforces HAM Group commitment to decarbonization and sustainability in the transport and industrial sectors, delivering clean energy solutions and promoting the Circular Economy by valorizing organic waste, stimulating the local economy, creating jobs in rural areas, and returning nutrients to the soil, while also providing a sustainable alternative to incineration or landfill disposal.
The Ñuble plant joins other operational Grupo HAM projects in Girona (Spain) and Faenza (Italy), consolidating its international leadership in Bio-LNG and expanding its presence in Latin America with new initiatives already underway.
